Review – Frostblood by Elly Blake

The frost king will burn.

Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a Fireblood who has concealed her powers of heat and flame from the cruel Frostblood ruling class her entire life. But when her mother is killed trying to protect her, and rebel Frostbloods demand her help to overthrow their bloodthirsty king, she agrees to come out of hiding, desperate to have her revenge.

Despite her unpredictable abilities, Ruby trains with the rebels and the infuriating—yet irresistible—Arcus, who seems to think of her as nothing more than a weapon. But before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to compete in the king’s tournaments that pit Fireblood prisoners against Frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her—and from the icy young man she has come to love.

My Review:
4 out of 5 stars

This book was constantly appearing in my feed on Twitter and Goodreads, so I finally decided to check it out.  I’m so glad I took a chance on this new-to-me author and read this book!  I loved it.  I didn’t read it as fast as I normally would have when I really enjoy a book because I was swamped with final assignments and exams for school, but when I had free time, I picked this book up immediately so I could read some more.

The Firebloods and Frostbloods are really interesting to me.  I loved learning about their powers and about the rivalry between them.  The first part of the book felt a little slow at times but the second half of the book more than made up for that.  I wasn’t sure that I was going to like Arcus at first but he quickly grew on me.  There were a couple of twists that I did not see coming at all that had my mouth hanging open in shock.

I am going to pick up Fireblood as soon as possible.  I can’t wait to read the next part of this story and see more from Arcus and Ruby.
